New Name, Same Commitment to Advancing the Neurological Sciences

The Movement Disorder Society (MDS) becomes the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society

MILWAUKEE - The Movement Disorder Society (MDS), the largest international organization representing movement disorders specialists, has changed its name to the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, effective September 3, 2013.

In conjunction with continuing efforts to increase awareness of the Society and Movement Disorders as a neurological sub-specialty among the public and other related societies, MDS members voted to change the organization's name at the last general meeting in Sydney, Australia on June 18th, 2013. Matthew Stern, MD, President of the Society said, "This new name recognizes the growing importance of Parkinson's disease care and research within the field of Movement Disorders and the activities of the Society."

The MDS award-winning website domain, www.movementdisorders.org, will not change, and the MDS logo will remain as the center of the organization's graphic identity.

Though the name has changed, the MDS mission and goals will remain the same, and the Society will continue to work together to disseminate knowledge and promote research in order to favorably affect the care of patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.
