The 6th National Conference of Movement Disorders Society of India - MDSICON 2021-2022, was held at the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai, “the city of dreams,” on May 13-15, 2022. 

The meeting was an ideal platform to celebrate the physical gathering of clinicians, researchers, postdoctoral fellows, medical residents, medical students and other healthcare professionals in movement disorders for the first time since the COVID-19 Pandemic. The conference was supported by Movement Disorder Society of India (MDSI) as the parent body along with Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorder Society (PDMDS). Bombay Neuroscience Association, Maharashtra Association of Neurology and International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society also participated as guest societies.  

The inauguration of MDSICON 2021-2022, a glittering affair on the evening of May 13, was graced by Mr. M. B. Parikh, Mr. Gulabchand, Ms. Usha Raheja, Dr. B. S. Singhal, Dr. Rupam Borgohain, Dr. Hrishikesh Kumar and Dr. Charulata Sankhla. The evening culminated with a celebration and beautiful performance by the Parkinsons’ patients, which was then followed by a fantastic musical night. The sponsors for the meeting were multiple pharmaceutical & surgical instruments and materials companies.

A rich, intellectually stimulating, scientific program was prepared by chairs of the scientific committee. The four-day MDSICON 2021-2022 meeting had orations, award sessions, lunch symposiums, platform presentations, debates and posters, guided video tours, video akhada and more. Day one of the conference also witnessed a specially organised patient program. There were three pre-conference workshops which were all very well attended. The botulinum toxin workshop was held at Hinduja Hospital and the surgical workshop and DBS programming workshop were held at St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai. Eminent clinicians and practitioners in their respective fields conducted the workshops and the response was positively overwhelming. The topics covered and discussed in this four-day program included dystonia and tremor, pediatric movement disorders, toxins and movement disorders, cognition in parkinsonism, complications of DBS and troubleshooting, infection and systemic disorders and basic neurosciences, newer technologies in DBS and more. The orations by Dr. Rupam Borgohain and Dr. Vinay Goyal as well as the plenary lectures were some of the highlights of the Congress.  

A total of 145 faculty participated in MDSICON 2021-2022. They shared their experience and expertise, which was appreciated by all delegates. Delegates and faculty from across India also participated in the Congress. The number of participants in each pre-conference workshop was 60-75, with three to five faculty guiding and demonstrating. The total number of participants at the conference was 600. 

Overall, the MDSICON 2021-2022 was an excellent meeting with exceedingly high-quality academic content, discussion and lots of delegate participation.
